Norie Lepon
I was born in Ireland to very wealthy parents but lost them at a young age. My oldest brother living in Gilford then raised me. He sent me to fine schools but squandered most of the wealth. I left school and met Alrek through a mutual friend of my brother’s in the market square, became the seamstress and embroiderer for his wife in Spain. A sempstress, or seamstress, is a woman who does fine sewing and mending, primarily mens shirts and women's clothing. Clothing and undergarments are made entirely by hand and take much work and time, so it is valuable. The clothing of the wealthy is highly decorated, often with embroidery. Embroidery is sewing decorative fancy stitches on cloth or leather, often in bright colors. The most popular used by the common folk was wool and, unfortunately, the poor would often have to wear this next to the skin. This wool was sometimes mixed with goat hair to make a fabric called chamlet. From the East returned silk, gauzes, brocades, velvets and satin. Linens mostly used for undergarments. Silk was only for the unmentionables of wealthy women. Commoners made their own clothing with dyes from onions, lichen, and alder plants. These fabrics were often dull in color. Worn over the women’s garment was a shift that varied in color often according to the ladies position in life. Bright and vivid colors were used for the higher class and this was reflected also in the accessories worn.
Alrek became very fond of me and after his wife passed we married. I still embroider & seam fine garments though no one seems to see very much of my wares in progress. I do myself wear very fine garments most of the time seemingly sewn by my hand.
It is believed that my husband Alrek died of his son Darth’s hand for his great wealth, in turn, I feared for my life. His son, by his first marriage, was trying to take total claim of his father’s fortune and leave me penniless. I seek protection & need to remain hidden for there is no family willing to protect my interests. In order to keep what wealth I have, I fled with my money and wares. I was allowed to board a ship in Spain by my late husband’s dear friend and confident Mayour, the Shipmaster. He brought me to Azu, as he was close friends with her son Don Neber, the physician, and trusts her to keep my past hidden, along with the caravan’s protection.
I was Lady Elsinore a lesser noble in Gilfor where I fled from. I don't go by that name now, I am known by the name of Norie Lepone.
I continue to seam Mayour’s wardrobe (or so it seems) and obtain wool from Azu purchased by him. It is also believed he has his eye on me. Once I arrive with the caravan, my eye is on Sven and I am overly kind to him. I am sure my sweet nature and personality will reel him or, at least his money toward me. I am however actually very cunning and deceitful because I fear someone will reveal to Darth my where about. I am very secretive and tend to disappear from time to time. I always am willing to donate wares to the ladies so to keep on their good side.
I also keep a close eye on one Fergus Irvine, Mercenary, I believe to protect me if my step son should ever cross my path. The Hanseatic League offers me the protection unsure if there is a price on my head or for it.
